Unhook for Instagram (“the extension”) is a Chrome extension that hides distracting Instagram interface elements and can open the chronological Following feed.

What information is collected

The extension stores only the on/off state of your settings (Following only, Hide Reels Tab, Hide Explore Tab, Hide Floating Messages, and Hide Suggested Accounts).

To apply those settings, the extension reads Instagram page content in your browser (for example, navigation links and on-page labels) so it can hide matching interface elements. It also sees Instagram home URLs when Following only is enabled, so it can redirect that route to the Following feed.

The extension does not collect your name, email, messages, posts, or account credentials.

How the information is used

Settings are used only to remember your preferences and apply them on Instagram. Page content and URLs are processed locally in your browser to hide interface elements and perform the Following-feed redirect.

Where information is stored and who it is shared with

Settings are saved with Chrome’s storage.sync API. If Chrome sync is enabled on your profile, Google may sync those preferences across your signed-in Chrome browsers. The extension does not send data to the developer or to any other third-party server.

The extension does not sell, rent, or use your data for advertising.

Permissions

• storage — save and sync your toggle preferences.
• declarativeNetRequest — redirect Instagram’s home URL to the Following feed when that setting is on.
• Host access to instagram.com — run the content scripts that hide navigation items on Instagram pages only.

How to remove your data

Uninstall the extension from chrome://extensions to delete its stored settings from that browser profile.

If this policy changes, the “Last updated” date at the top of this page will be revised.
